There is so much to see in Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York, it’s become a must-see for many of our Great Lakes cruise guests.

Niagara Falls attracts millions of visitors each year by land and by sea. Cruising offers you the simplicity of pre-arranged excursions and daily enrichment programs conducted onboard by local experts, specific to the region.

Niagara Falls is actually a group of three waterfalls located at the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. The Niagara river drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario and the combined falls have the highest flow rate of any other waterfall in North America. Between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York is where you can see the Niagara River flow over the edge of Niagara Falls, creating this natural spectacle that is visited by millions of people each year. The falls are 17 miles north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and about 75 miles south-southeast of Toronto, Canada.
On the Canadian side of Niagara Falls you will see from a distance the gorgeous panoramas of the American Falls while getting up close to the largest of the three falls; Horseshoe Falls which lies on the international border of two countries. Horseshoe Falls is also the most powerful waterfall with a vertical drop of 160 feet n North America. The deepest section of the river is just below the falls.  Directly across the Niagara River is Niagara Falls, New York.  The smaller American Falls is separated by Goat Island while the Bridal Veil Falls is separated by Luna Island, both islands are located in the United States.
Most of the places you will want to visit on the Canadian side are closely located around the falls. Apart from Niagara’s natural wonders you can also visit observation towers, restaurants, retails shops, museums, indoor water parks, casinos and theaters. Niagara Falls is not only a breathtaking sight but it’s also a valuable source of hydroelectric power.

Skylon Tower

The Skylon Tower is an observation tower and famous landmark located at Niagara Falls. This tourist attraction rises some 775 feet from the base of the falls. It offers amazing views of both the American and Horseshoe Falls as well as the rest of the falls.

On a clear day, you can actually see the Toronto and Buffalo skylines from this tower. Skylon is one of the most well known and popular Niagara Falls attractions to date.

The history of the Skylon Tower goes back to 1964 when construction of the tower began. It took about a year to complete at the cost of 7 million dollars.

Not only does the Skylon Tower offer stunning views of Niagara Falls from the observation deck, it is host to two wonderful restaurants. The experience will be unforgettable. The first is the Summit Suite Buffet which is a family oriented buffet. The second is the Revolving Dining Room which World Famous because it offers guests a 360 degree dining experience.

At the base of the tower, you will find everything from a family fun arcade, a 3D/4D movie theatre, and a shopping centre to rival some of the best shopping expeditions one can find.

Every night the Skylon Tower lights up Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The illumination starts at approximately 6pm and goes through about 11pm. The most vibrant of that time is when it is the darkest. It is something to celebrate 24/7 though so make sure you include this on your shore excursion to the area.

For decades Niagara Falls as been host to some amazing fireworks displays. Depending on the weather conditions, the fireworks show should take place every evening after dark. There is one last secret you should try when visiting the Skylon Tower and that’s their Bakery. Decadent desserts are made fresh daily in-house.
